Description

Caswellite is a variety of grossular garnet. It is derived from the hydrothermal alteration and replacement of hendricksite mica in the Franklin ore body, Franklin, New Jersey, USA. [cit. mindat]
Here is a sample containing a mass of caswellite with a flaky appearance. The color is beige. The caswellite itself show no UV fluorescence but the accompanying willemite fluoresces green.

Comes with nice old Dr. F. Krantz pen and ink label dated around or before 1902. Background: In June 1901, due to passing of some resolutions in the context of a reform of german orthography, the spelling of german "Contor" (branch office) was altered to "Kontor".
