Gablitz, Sankt Pölten-Land District, Lower Austria, Austria

Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)

Description

Very rare amber embedded in matrix from a small and rare discovery near Gablitz village inside Wienerwald forest. The matrix is sandstone and amber is included in coal, which is present in small veins inside the sandstone. Curiously, the resin comes from deep-sea sediments, where it was deposited about 50 million years ago at about 5,000 meters. It glows intensely blue under ultraviolet light.
