Description

Historic ore sample consisting of massive andorite, a Ag-Pb sulfosalt, and quartz.

The name of the location, the mine "Socavon de la Virgen Oruro" is mentioned e.g. in "XXII. Ueber die Identität von Andorit, Snndtit, und Webnerit" by G. T. Prior, M.A., F.G.S., and L. J. Spencer, M.A., F.G.S. in London (Brit. Mus.). 1897. The mine is now a museum and touristic mine.

Comes with Alex Franz label and a second, older antique label of an unknown collection. On the backside of this label is noted: "Der beiliegende Zettel lautet: Polibasita - Mineral de plata - Mina Socavon - Oruro Bolivia" (The annexed label means: Polybasite - mineral of silver - Mina Socavon - Oruro Bolivia). It is not finally clear if the specimen is andorite or polybasite.
