Description

A very fascinating specimen: first there is the obvious Jurassic ammonite of the species amaltheus. At a closer look the bulky base also seems to be an ammonite of another species. Sometimes they are so heavily encrusted, you can only guess by the shape of the pyrite cluster that there might be an ammonite underneath the crystals. This might be the case here, but it would not make much sense to try to check it, because usually there is no dividing line between the former shell and the surrounding pyrite.

On top of this some very nice pyrite crystals (cuboctahedrons /pyritohedrons) sit on top of the pyrite 'matrix'. Realy exceptional, especially because there's not a lot of good material coming out of this region.
