Description

A historic specimen from the Isla of Man consisting mainly of argentotennantite (silver-grey), sphalerite (blackish) and minor white quartz. The Foxdale mines operated in the 19th century and yielded a rich output of zinc blende, lead ore, and silver. The last mine was closed in 1911.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with nice old label from an unknown origin. The label means: 'Polyteelite + Blende - Fixdale I(sle) of Man''.

Polytelite (Glocker) = Pb-rich argentotennantite, Dana 6th, 141 (1892).
Blende = sphalerite, AM 49, 224 (1964).
