Description

Piece of lustrous, grainy black chromite associated with minor greenish serpentine.

Comes with on-glued corresponding number sticker and antique label of the Mineralien-Niederlage Freiberg / Freiberg Mining Academy Mineral Dealership. This one is hand-written by Felix Otto Edelmann, who was administrator in the period of 1920 - 1952. The label means:
'Chromeisenerz im Dunit von Kraubat, Steiermark, Ostmark'
(Chromite in dunite from Kraubath, Styria, Austria)

'Chromeisenerz' is a german synonym for chromite
'Dunit' is a peridotite comprising >90% olivine. Accessory chromite almost always present (cit. mindat)
'Ostmark' was the official territorial name between 1939 and 1942 of the former state of Austria after the "Anschluss" in March 1938 to the German Reich, before that still called Austria.
