Description

The small, yet pitoresque Wittichen valley is laden with several interesting localities. A lesser known spot is given by the pathcut right below Grube Sophia, on the way to the Schmiedestollen dump. Among these altered granites, there are occasionally some spatic calcite spots, which might host minerals such as baryte, quartz and chalcopyrite, mostly micromounts.

This specimen features a nice geode hosting a dozen of white-grey tabular baryte crystals, with moderate lustre and in good conditions. This is one of my best barytes recovered from the area. The find dates back to 2008 and it is possibly the best baryte I have recovered from there.
