Description

Late 2019 I have come across a very interesting, small lot of analcime from the locality of Chetaibi, Algeria.
Analcime consists of sizeable, water clear crystals of good size, nicely perched on solid matrix, often associated to white-yellowish spatic calcite. In this very specimen, a large flattened analcime crystal stands on a small speck of minimal grey matrix at the base.

Lustre is quite good, with local transparency on the outer rims of the crystal, to the point of being hard to depic. Locally, analcime faces are lightly stained by yellow iron oxides, and some minor corrosion patterns are visible here and there, probably related to some instability post-crystallization.
On the back of the specimen, the original archive label.

I have never seen those specimens on the market before, and I think they do set a high standard among African analcime. From a small find from a Swiss engineer in the 60s (possibly from a roadcut?), only a few specimens were recovered.
