Size:
5.5 × 3.9 × 3.2 cm

Description

A branch of wood completely replaced by lustrous gemmy, caramel brown rhombohedra of calcite, perfectly terminated. Interestingly, some tiny dark green to black crystals (augite?) are also “pasted” to the back, as part of the volcanic tuff that formed the matrix, showing that this uncommon calcite fossilization is a product of a volcanic eruption.

Found in 02/2012 at the Mount Elgon (a remote locality in Uganda) by the Dutch collector Bert Biemold.
