Description

Deep red undamaged trapezohedral almandine crystals with good definition of stepped and lustrous faces. They are imbedded in pale calcite matrix and black rock that includes striated arfvedsonite crystals and minor quartz. Found at the Kamiaba region, a very remote locality near the border with Zambia. Uncommon locality in collections, that has never been abundant at all.

Collected before 1960, the specimen is from the stock of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium in 1960 after the beginning of the Congo crisis.
