Description

Floater group of cream-coloured interpenetrated calcite crystals (variety glendonite), that has been considered traditionally as pseudomorphs after ikaite. However data reported by Rogov and Zakharov (2010) indicate that the glendonites probably formed in deep-water facies and the overall paleoclimate could have reflected a period of high-frequency climate oscillations. Also Geptnera, et al. (2014) have shown that glendonites could be formed with the contribution of bacterial communities.

This specimen is a floater and undamaged and was acquired in 1993 by J. Muizebelt.
