Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Wolfe Creek Meteorite, Carranya Station, Halls Creek Shire, Western Australia, Australia
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7 × 4.2 × 3.5 cm
Description

A mass of black (magnetic!) meteorite matrix altered to green masses of pecoraite, with a cut and polished side. It comes with an old label that will be provided with the specimen. The Wolfe Creek is a protected area cause it is where a meteoritic impact took place some 10,000-20,000 years ago. Other green Ni-bearing minerals such as reevesite and/or cassidyite, from which Wolfe Creek is also the type locality, are usually present in these kind of specimens, so they could be probably in this piece too.

Acquired in 1972, it is an Ex. Gerard Vogel specimen.
