Description

From a classic locality, Kelmis (La Calamine), this is a good representative block of banded concentric schalenblende with marcasite, and minor included cubic crystals of galena near the core. This old piece is probably from the Schmalgraf mine, with one face cut and polished to enhance the internal structure. The schalenblende sphalerite shows some orange fluorescence under short ultraviolet illumination.

Old time specimen, of a Dutch collection, #3388, built in the 1960’s - 1990’s.
