Galena With Sphalerite & Calcite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russian Federation
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7 × 5 × 5 cm
Description

This is a very unusual looking and, in my opinion, attractive specimen. The matrix is a mixture of sphalerite and galena over which there is a layer of highly reflective galena that looks as if molten metal has been poured over the specimen and a few super sharp calcite crystals sprinkled on top before it solidified. Much brighter than the images suggest and from a rarely seen Russian locality.
