Legrandite

Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Flor De Pena Mine, Lampazos, Lampazos de Naranjo Municipality, Nuevo Leon, Mexico
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.4 × 4 × 2 cm
Description

This is a really rare example of legrandite from the species type locality. It is not from the Ojuela Mine where the majority of the legrandite from Mexico originates but from a much smaller earlier find in Nuevo Leon which is a completely different location with different geology.

The straw yellow to orange well crystallized legrandite is contrasted against whitish-greyish smithsonite. This paragenesis is a dead giveaway of its origin.

Some small dings, overall a quite rich and good specimen. Rare stuff! Probably from the mid 1970s find.
