Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Beineu-Kyr, Tuarkyr Mountains, Geok Tepe, Ahal, Turkmenistan
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.9 × 5.2 × 4.7 cm
Description

A specimen of celestine (also known as "celestite") from the former Soviet republic of Turkmenistan - it is not common to see celestine from here at all, as compared to the abundant ones from Madagascar, and even American specimens. This is a pocket full of extremely gemmy, glassy crystals (truly glasslike in person and up to 14mm on edges), with just the faintest blue-grey hue to them. Should be high ranked for this really very uncommon locality!
