Description

First a small locality information: Chessy was productive from the middle-age until 1875. Primary it was a coper deposit, there were also secondary minerals lead, zinc and of course coper. Thanks to superb specimen of azurite (in France called chessilite) this locality became so famous. In 1811 the minors opened a single shaft - the famous „Blue Mine“ which contained severals vugs of azurite. During the last century lot of specimen were found in the old dumps. But caused by alteration most of this material shows lower quality. Specimen like the particular one in such amazing quality came only from the original shafts; this quality could never be found in the dumps.
The malachite is so typical that it is easy to identify the specimen as a piece from cheesy. But when you only look at the azurite this could be even from Mexico (Mil Pillas). The crystals are sharp terminated, highly lustrous and show wonderful royal blue color. They are completely free-standing, complete and on same high quality all around. They are set on well-shaped, dark green malachite crystals - habit, color and appearance are typically for cheesy. It is very hard to obtain a specimen from the original mine.
