Description

A single, twinned gypsum crystal. The textbook crystal has bright waxy lustre with typical striated faces and is water-clear. One end was obviously contacted where another crystal once lay, the other is terminated  and shows the typical 'dovetail' twinning.

Comes with nice old pen and ink label. As early as 1872 Bernard Stürtz (1845-1928) had established himself as a mineral dealer in Bonn am Rhein, in a dealership that had been founded by his wife in 1866.
Stürtz was proprietor of what he called his Mineralogisches und palaeontologisches Comptoir ("Mineralogical and paleontological office"), dealing in "minerals, meteorites, rocks, ores, fossils, models, scientific instruments and preparations". His stock was bought out by Dr. A. Krantz very likely in the 1920's.
