Description

A rounded nugget specimen of awaruite, a rare alloy of nickel and iron, originally called "Josephinite" for its type locality "Josephine Creek placers, Josephine Creek Mining District, Josephine Co., Oregon, USA". Nickel-iron is more frequently found in meteorites, but occasionally also has a terrestrial origin, although it is then quite rare. Strongly magnetic.

Comes with label of Southwest Scientific Co., Sedona, AZ, USA, dated to the end of the 1960's.
