Description

A wonderful example of a great Sardinian classic, a perfect stalactitic formation of deep yellow smithsonite, often referred to as cadmian smithsonite. The deep yellow colour, in places with slight hints of orange, is very striking in person. The underside shows a nice cross-section of the layers that grew around a core of colourless smithsonite.

These specimens almost always ended up being cut into polished slices to show off the internal banding, so a complete one like this in perfect condition is quite a rarity.
