Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Unterstürmig Clay Pit, Eggolsheim, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany
Class:
Massive/Crystalline
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.9 × 4.7 × 3 cm
Description

Beautiful specimen of bright golden-brassy pyritized ammonites from the famous jurassic clay pit in Unterstürmig. A thin layer of those ammonite shells right under the original calcite/aragonite shell has been replaced by pyrite. The white remnants of the shell are later brushed off with a brass brush, thus further enhancing the original brassy-golden color of the pyrite-ammonites.

The ammonites show in parts beautiful suture lines - rarely seen in those ammonites.

It's very hard to get good quality pyrite ammonites nowadays. The buyer receives both parts - positive and negative imprint - with another ammonite sitting on the back of the negative. Measurements given are for the complete nodule put together.
