Description

Once the largest Zinc mine in Europe, the Altenberg Open Pit was closed in 1884 and specimens are nowadays very rare. This sample has a rich coverage of small yellowish brown crystals of smithsonite on a, for the locality very typical, brownish matrix. On top of the smithsonite are lots of colourless hemimorphite crystals up to 5 mm.
In a good condition for a 130 years old piece. Comes with several older labels.
